Thank the Lord for answering prayers. Mark walked out of the clinic a free man. Good thing he hadn’t invest too much in Brittanee’s lies. Turned out Martin was the father and the result of that test was 9.9999999999 percent. He was definitely Mark Jr.’s father. Mark’s only request was to change the baby’s name and that wasn’t something Brittanee or Martin argued. They agreed to change his name as soon as possible. Brittanee gave Mark a warm apology and he left the building in good spirits.
Mark was so happy that he had to tell someone. “Guess what?” He said into the receiver.
“What’s up?” Tierra said eager to know why was her man so happy.
“When it comes to Mark Jr,, Mark is not the father.” He squealed the paternity results in his best Maury Povich imitation.
“Yay!” Tierra shared in his excitement. “That’s awesome.”
“Yes it is. Now we can start our own family.” Mark slipped. He was a little too excited. He didn’t mean to say that to her. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her off.
The phone went silent.
“Hello?” Mark said.
“I’m here.” Tierra laughed nervously. “You want me to have your children?”
“Now that you mention it, yes. I can’t imagine my life without you.” Mark said. “Let’s not do this over the phone. Are you free for lunch?”
“Um, yeah I’m free. What time?”
Mark looked down at his watch and said, “In about an hour from now?”
“Cool. See you then. Love you.”
“Love you too” Mark hung up the phone. Mark made a quick detour over to Kay Jewelers. Because he knew every kiss began with Kay. He needed to make this move. It had been eating away at him and he had to do what God had ordained for him to do.
Downtown Washington DC was always a busy scene during the lunch hour. Mark thought it would be a good idea to grab something to eat downtown since that’s where Tierra worked. Sitting in a window seat in Georgia Brown Restaurant in McPherson Square, Mark gazed at Tierra. He grabbed her hand and continued where he left off earlier.
“Like I was saying to you earlier, my life would be awkward without you in it.” He kissed the back of her hand. Mark pulled out his chair and kneeled before Tierra.
She grabbed her mouth as tears blurred her vision. Tierra was expecting this, but not this soon.
“My life would be complete if you would agree to be my wife.” Mark slipped the four carat princess cut ring in white gold onto her ring finger and awaited her answer.
“Mark I am, I don’t know what to say.” Tierra searched for the words to speak.
“Say yes beautiful. Make my life complete, say yes.”
“Yes.” Tierra tears flowed.
Mark jumped up and wrapped his arms around her waist picked her up and twirled her around. He kissed her passionately as tears well up in his eyes. Mark knew she was feeling him, but had no idea what her answer would be to his proposal.
“She said yes!” He announced to the restaurant goers.
